History

Born and raised in Yonkers, NY, this New York native pursued a career in art before turning to blaseball. Also he is a Mai Tai whose contents are currently residing in the San Francisco Lovers’ sacred relic, the Holy Glrail.

Early Music Career

Bentley has been active in New York City's rap community since XX04 under the pseudonym Orange Arnage. Bentley mentioned in a tell-all interview that he was inspired to "pick up the mic" by a collection of Stretch and Bobbito bootleg tapes given to him by his older cousin.

His first mixtape, released in XX05, was met with modest support from locals. Bentley’s XX07 follow-up full length tape earned praise from fellow New York City rappers U-God and Jadakiss as well as producer Harry Fraud.

Bentley's sophomore LP was delayed multiple times during negotiations with labels, but ultimately a deal never materialized. After un-mastered demos from these sessions were leaked by hackers, Bentley stepped away from rap professionally and began a career in Blaseball with the Millennials.

Most recently, Bentley can be seen in the background of the music video for "Euro Step" by Buffalo rapper Westside Gunn. Bentley said he still listens "voraciously" but was "too busy with blaseball" to return to making music at the time.

Tabloids have speculated that Bentley's sudden retirement from rapping is due to him sacrificing his creative abilities to a dark power in order to make himself and the Millennials stronger at blaseball.

Joining the Lovers

Bentley’s arrival on the San Francisco Lovers could not have come at a more inopportune time. Fans and future teammates alike were shocked, during a freak Feedback occurrence during the 3rd Day of Season 19, when a literal beverage appeared in place of fan favorite and undisputed king of basetheft, Don Mitchell. To say that Bentley felt like a party crasher, would be an understatement.

Since the Holy Glrail’s retrieval every new member to the Lovers partakes in an initiation ritual, sipping from its contents. The Holy Glrail’s contents are said to amplify a player’s one true love and passion for something, which is what allows them to become so Charming on the blaseball field. However in Bentley’s case, a literal beverage filled with contents, the Lovers were unsure of how to perform that task. Mint Shupe, full-time gremlin and part-time mad scientist, took it upon herself to solve this dilemma by pouring Bates Bentley directly into the Holy Glrail itself.

The Transformation

Upon being placed into the Holy Glrail Bentley underwent a transformation. The magical properties imbued in the relic allowed Bentley the ability to become a kind of sentient liquid that could shift shape at will (often finding himself in the form of a humanoid male.) No longer constricted to the form that his container was in, Bentley felt an unbridled freedom he had never felt before. However with that freedom also came an anxiety. Because of this Bentley can often still be found within the contents of the Holy Glrail, letting the magical liquid wash over him and soothe his worries away (except of course when a new player would be undergoing the initiation ritual, in Bentley’s own words “That would just be weird.”)

A New Side-Hustle

Each time upon mixing with the contents of the Holy Glrail, Bentley would think back to their storied music career, their time in New York listening to the hustle and bustle of the city as well as their time in Hawai'i and the soothing noise of the ocean waves. It was at this moment that Bentley realized their true passion in life, the phenomenon known as Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR). Bentley knew that his beloved white noises could aid people in many ways, whether it was soothing the anxiety he felt entering a new phase of his life, aiding restless individuals in their sleep, helping to soothe the savage beast of anger, or any of the other number of possibilities. Combining his love of music and love of white noise, Bentley created a 24/7 online audio streaming service, known simply as “Bates Bentley’s Lo-Fi Hip Hop ASMR”, which has become a huge success and comeback for the former rapper.

Relationships

Due to his sudden arrival to the team it took the rest of the Lovers some getting used to, much of their original roster having been broken apart by a series of Feedback occurrences throughout the past few seasons. Bentley had a hard time relating to his feelings and getting closer to others, despite this he would go on to create mixtapes for each and every Lover throughout Season 19. This was Bentley’s own unique way of showing his appreciation for them, as well as their acceptance of him as a Lover, during this uncertain time for both the team and himself. Bentley would go on to continue to create mixtapes for each new Lover upon their arrival to the team, as his own special way of letting them know that they were welcome new additions to the team and to ensure that they never felt like they were outsiders.

Bentley’s closest relations on the Lovers are two Hawai'i Fridays players, former team captain Fletcher Yamamoto, and surf enthusiast Karato Bean. Their shared experience of Hawai'i and the overall sense of good vibes united the trio on a common ground. When they’re not up to their usual hijinks, such as mastering the art of the grind rail, they can be spotted throughout the PolyHedron committing Random Acts of Kindness. The self-proclaimed “Vibe Tribe” have been seen attaching money to the vending machines with a kind note, paying for the person behind them in line’s coffee, doing the occasional free art drop of one of Karato’s paintings on a nearby bleacher, and much more.

Bentley also has a somewhat unique relationship with Mint Shupe, who Bentley owes a great deal to. Shupe, when asked why she did something so risky for the contents of Bentley and if she knew what would happen, had only this morsel of information to offer, “Uhh… I did it because I would like to see it.”
