Atlantis Georgias/Season 17

From Blaseball Wiki

In Season β17, the Atlantis Georgias finished 7th in the Wild League and 14th in the ILB.

The Georgias' performance in Season 17 was similar to the previous season; same as it ever was. While fans were initially optimistic for the team's performance, tragedy once again struck during Midseason, as reliable lead-off batter Niq Nyong'o would be swept Elsewhere, star batter Hercules Alighieri would be incinerated by a Rogue Umpire and given an underwhelming replacement, and star pitcher Rigby Friedrich would swallow a stray peanut and suffer an allergic reaction.

During the Election, the Georgias shortened their lineup by moving Jon Tumblehome to the Shadows, while trading away Montgomery Bullock for star batter Fish Summer. However, an interim trade from the Baltimore Crabs would swap Summer for Wyatt Mason IV, a much worse batter who was Shelled at the time. The San Francisco Lovers would additionally trade Pitching Machine for Knight Triumphant, giving the Georgias an impressive, albeit short-lived pitcher. The Georgias would receive the Jerseys Supply Run Blessing, providing most of the team with a thin layer of extra defense.

Season Overview

The following summary mixes canon events with community lore.

Opening Day

Fans of the Atlantis Georgias watched the beginning of Season β17 with nervous anticipation, as their first two games would both be under Solar Eclipse weather against the Baltimore Crabs, who recently obtained the Unstable batter Chorby Soul. Fans of the Georgias feared that when Soul was incinerated, the Instability could chain to one of their own players, possibly leading to the team suffering multiple incinerations in a short period of time. At the time, the Georgias were one of the only two teams in the ILB to never suffer an incineration, and most fans were fearful that their luck had run out.

While the Georgias would luckily avoid losing any beloved players during the first two games of the Season, the Baltimore Crabs were not so lucky. Soul would be incinerated during the top of the sixth inning on Day 1, and the instability would chain to Luis Acevedo, who was pitching the next game. Acevedo would turn out to be similarly unlucky, as during the top of the eighth inning on Day 2, they would be incinerated as well.

The deaths of Soul and Acevedo were the first incinerations ever witnessed by the majority of the Team, and most of the Georgias left this series with a sense of fear, realizing just how shortly any of their lives could be cut short. Fans and teammates alike were only left with the question of which of the Georgias would be the first to go. Unfortunately, it would not take long for the team to find out.

The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Midseason

Past Opening Day, the Season continued much as normal, with fans taking particular note of the team's newest hitter: Montgomery Bullock, who rarely ever hit the ball and mostly got on base by walking. For the most part, fans noticed a marked improvement in the Team's performance, and believed this would be the Season in which the Georgias could finally be good. By Midseason, however, everything would begin to fall apart.

On Day 51, lead-off batter and team captain Niq Nyong'o would be swept Elsewhere in Flooding. Nyong'o was recognized by her teammates for her calm demeanor and organizational skills, and her absence left the team largely directionless. Not helping was the fact that as Atlantis' chosen reality anchor, her absence lead to the shattered realities of Atlantis slowly drifting apart from each other, leaving the team in a more vulnerable position. Star batter Hercules Alighieri would offer to act as interim captain until she returned, as he had helped lead the Georgias to four Championships long before the team Descended, but unfortunately, this would not last for long.

On Day 54, Alighieri would be incinerated by a Rogue Umpire, marking the team's first ever incineration. His death came to the shock of many; besides being the team's star batter, he was a legendary hero in Atlantis, and was largely thought by most to be immortal. This was the first time a player on the Georgias had been incinerated, and as such, efforts were swiftly taken to memorialize Alighieri. A headstone for Alighieri was placed directly on the basepath, forcing Players to jump over it like a hurdle and remember him on the way to first base. A large statue of Alighieri would be commissioned, and placed in the stands between second and third base. Additionally, the coral garden Alighieri had attended to would be renamed the Alighieri Memorial Coral Garden in his honor.

Taking Alighieri's place would be Jon Tumblehome, a research drone that had been discovered in notably poor condition by the researchers at the Atlantean Facility for Interdimensional Studies and Hypotheses many years prior. The researchers at AFISH, particularly Alighieri, spent long amounts of time working to repair Tumblehome, though they had yet to restore Tumblehome to full power. As such, the Team was shocked to see Tumblehome fully operational following Alighieri's incineration, despite still being in poor working condition. While Tumblehome's first at bat would result in a triple, for the most part Tumblehome's performance was largely unimpressive, especially given Tumblehome had replaced the team's star batter.

This would not be the end of the Georgias' grievances in the midseason, however, as on Day 66, star pitcher and god slayer Rigby Friedrich would suffer from his sole weakness: Peanuts. While his allergic reaction was not enough to make him a bad pitcher, it had undone most of the progress Rigby had made through partying in the Seasons prior, and only set the Georgias back further in their efforts to become a good team.

Nyong'o would return after 33 Days, to witness her team in a state of disarray following the disastrous Midseason. While she attempted to keep a calm face in the Days that followed, her teammates could tell she was devastated to learn about the loss of one of her closest friends, and she largely remained quiet for the remainder of the Season. Due to the hardships experienced during the midseason, the Georgias would conclude Season 17 with a record only marginally better than Season 16, and would enter Party Time on Day 91.

Election

While the Georgias endured a difficult Season, they remained determined with their eyes geared towards the future. Jon Tumblehome, who was never designed to play Blaseball in the first place, was retired to the Team's Shadows. Additionally, Montgomery Bullock would be traded back to Baltimore Crabs in exchange for Fish Summer, giving the Team a new star hitter following Alighieri's incineration. A deal was made with the San Francisco Lovers to exchange Knight Triumphant for Pitching Machine, returning the Lovers their long-time captain, and moving both Players back to their most proficient role. While Ortiz Lopez was sad to see Triumphant go, she seemed excited to finally enjoy being on the same team as her beloved "Pitch-ems". With a strengthened Lineup and Rotation, the Georgias looked optimistically towards Season 18.

Or at least, they would have, if not for a Will filed by the Baltimore Crabs that would lead to Summer being exchanged for Wyatt Mason IV, better known as Ivy Mason. Ivy Mason, as opposed to Summer, was not a star batter, being a much more talented pitcher. Perhaps fortunately, Mason was Shelled at the time of their arrival to the Georgias, sparing the Team from another bad batter at least until Mason would be pecked free. With Mason's addition, the Team was only modestly better than they were before the Election, as opposed to the dramatic improvement they would have seen with Summer. Same as it ever was.

The Team also got a crate full of new Jerseys, which would provide little more than an added layer of protection from Consumers, though with the new Smithy manned by Zendaya (no relation), it was better than nothing.
